Our Services
In order to understand
what we do at Voiceopolis, let's learn a little about the elements in an audio production.
We all know what an audio "commercial"
is because we hear them daily on radio. This is a tool used by a company to advertise products or services, or a combination
of those in an audio format. Using voice over (v-o), and often adding music and or sound effects to the "spot", this
element becomes what we know as a "commercial" or "spot". A commercial almost always contains a call to action. To purchase,
buy, invest, call, visit, etc.
Very similar to the commercial
is the "promo". It is a different kind of element that is a call to listen to a program or show at a
specific time.
Then along comes an "interstitial"
which is a short vignette of material that may highlight a program or show. An interstitial may not actually give a specific
call to action of any kind.
A radio "show"
or "program" as it is often called, begins with an OPEN (Intro) and ends with a CLOSE (Outro).
We will try to use the word "show" so as to differentiate between
the modern uses of the word program as having to do with a computer!
The Open and Close may be v-o
with, or without music, and possibly a combination of both. When voice over
is recorded and has music "under it", it is said to have a "music bed". This v-o without a music bed is also known as "dry". Conversely, with the music bed, it may affectionately
be called "wet".
The samples below are intended for a radio audience. Podcast elements would be worded
differently!
OPEN The
Open of a show should usually be short and to the point. It is an introduction that prepares the listener for your show. Some
things that are usually included are:
1.) A welcome phrase. 2.) Name of show. 3.) The name of the host(s). 4.) The sponsor(s), or organization, congregation, church, etc. 5.) The
purpose, desire, focus, or target for your show 6.) The "let's get started" phrase...
now, here's Floatin' Phil!

CLOSE The
Close of a show usually gives a little more information. Gives contact information, re-invites the listener to
listen next time, and has a closing salutation. Some Closes have some music as a lead in, this is usually done with live shows
so that the host has a warning that the time is running short. Do not make the Close too long and complicated, keep it simple
and to the point. Some things that are usually included are:
1.) Thank the audience using
the name of the show and/or the name of the host. 2.) Ask for feedback,
support, or whatever. This is also when you give: a.) Mailing
address b.) Your physical address
c.) Show times, and days of the week. d.) Phone number. e.) Website
f.) Email address 3.) Share the name
of your sponsor(s), or sponsoring organization and all applicable information. 4.) Remind
them of the show’s name and invite them to tune in next time, giving the day(s) and time that your show airs. 5.) The salutation is something like, “until next time, this is Host Name, God Bless!”,
or “God Bless you all and keep the wind in your 'chute!” Be sincere and creative here, these are the last words
your audience will hear from you until next time!

PROMO Your Promo is essentially
a thirty second “spot” that advertises your show. Some things to include;
1.) Invitation to listen to “name
of show” with “name of host” on “day of week”, at “time of day” 2.) Purpose of show, and maybe the sponsor. 3.) Re-invite
as per line 1.) above: listen to “name of show” with “name of host” on “day of week”,
at “time of day”.
